The mission of the Taylortown Police Department is to provide a safe and secure community for all residents and visitors through integrity, professionalism, and efficient service. We are committed to building collaborative partnerships within our organization and with the community to enhance trust, fairness, and respect. By working together, we strive to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime, and improve the quality of life for everyone in Taylortown. Chief Daniel M. Smith – Taylortown Police Department
​
As a dedicated law enforcement professional with over 15 years of experience, I am honored to serve the citizens of Taylortown, North Carolina. My career has afforded me the opportunity to experience all levels of law enforcement. I have served in patrol, detective, special operations divisions, DWI task forces, and administrative leadership roles. My work has always been guided by a commitment by the highest levels of integrity, building strong community relationships, professionalism, and the pursuit of justice.

Throughout my career, I have focused on fostering strong community relationships, reducing violent crime, conducting thorough investigations, and building strong cases that lead to successful prosecutions. My experience includes engaging with the community, collecting evidence, conducting surveillance, preparing felony reports for the District Attorney’s Office, and testifying in state and federal courts. I have made numerous arrests for violations of North Carolina laws. I have led numerous investigations into crimes against persons, property crimes, and narcotics offenses.
I am a proud graduate of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. My ongoing commitment to professional development is reflected in advanced certifications from North Carolina Training and Standards. Specialized training in community policing: fostering strong relationships, five-star leadership courses, narcotics investigations, surveillance, supervision, and fugitive apprehension.

I am a native of Southern Pines, North Carolina. I earned a bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. A Master's degree in Criminal Justice Leadership and Executive Management from Walden University. While in college, I played Baseball from 2003- 2007 as a third and first baseman, earning 1st team All-American and runner-up player of the year in 2005.

As Chief, my vision for the Taylortown Police Department is to foster a culture of excellence, transparency, and community partnership. We will work collaboratively with residents, businesses, and local organizations to enhance public safety, build trust, and ensure that Taylortown remains a safe and welcoming place for all. Together, we will uphold the highest standards of law enforcement and continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve.
